Hongiranotsava 2018 - A Detailed Report


There is a great saying:  “Real education fetches you more and teaches you to live. It cannot be measured in any tangible way.  Annual day celebration is one of the techniques that build strength in children to celebrate their achievements.  It helps them in demonstrating and experiencing the joy of learning”.

One more year has been added to the glorious legacy of Hongirana School of Excellence and Hongirana Independent Pre-University College, of the trust “Sagar Academy of Education”.  Being the Sixteenth Annual celebration, the academic journey of Hongirana has been a bouquet of achievements.  It’s now been recognized nationally as a premier institution of learning which is persistent in providing quality & holistic education. 
It was a matter of pride and privilege to celebrate its 16th annual day fest, Hongiranotsava-2018-19.  The entire school and college participated in a great zeal towards the success of this grand fest. The triumph was made possible by the relentless efforts of the Honourable Principal Mrs. Shobha Ravindra and her industrious team.

Day 01 - 30th November 2018

MATRU UTSAVA -  
“Mother is a walking miracle. A celebration in her name every day is the right way of glorifying her nobility”. 

To celebrate this, Hongiranotsava 2018-19 started with Matru Utsava that gave vent to reflect the love & value of a mother towards her children.   On this occasion, the institution had summoned Smt. Rukmini Nayak, Retd. Lecturer and the founder of Annapurneshwari Mushti Akki Yojane, working for the upliftment of tribal children, as the Chief Guest and Dr. Nalina Bhagawath as the President of the programme.  Master of Ceremony was the high school faculty, Mr. Naveen.
On 30th November, at 2pm the fest started with a motivational video reflecting mother’s love followed by melodious prayer song by the choir group.  Smt. Kamala Gudigar, the HM of the primary section, welcomed the gathering.  The foreword was presented by Mrs. Mangala Javagal who conveyed the importance of the programme.  She said that the intention was to build a positive bonding and affection between the mother and a child.  Shukti, a book comprising of letters written by students and teachers to their mothers was released by the Chief Guest Mrs. Rukmini Nayak.  This added value to the theme, Matru Utsava.  
Later, a couple of most emotional letters were read by students followed by colloquy by a panel of 5 students of the institution. Mrs. Rukmini Nayak, later, addressed the gathering and applauded the noble intention behind the programme.  In her speech, she reminded the responsibilities of the children towards their parents.  She said that the success of a child can be seen only when there is a positive triangular relationship between a teacher, a student and the parents.  She stressed upon a statement which said, “Bad parent complains, good parent protects and best parent inspires the child”.  She highlighted the values behind the celebration of festivals like Raksha Bandhan and said woman harassment will decrease if new generation is given proper guidance by the parents and teachers about women.
Later the stage was open for Presidential remarks by Mrs. Nalina Bhagawath.  She applauded and said that the programme was well organized.  The programme wound up with a meaningful vote thanks given by Mrs. Usharani of the middle section. Totally, it touched the hearts of many with love and devotion towards their parents and vice versa.

Cultural Program of Day - 1 - Naada Meravanige

The evening of the same day was adorned with colourful cultural programmes which started with a melodious light music called “Naada Meravanige” by students of high school.  This was followed by the cultural programme of primary section with a theme called “Payana-Honnina Kiranagala Varshaanuyana”.  This programme was a perfect blend of the cultural programme with a yearlong on-goings of the primary section.  Besides entertainment, the cultural programme had a hidden agenda of depicting the journey of academics including curriculum and co-curriculum activities.  It also showcased the rich culture and heritage of India.
Thus, the colourful first day of Hongiranotsava was called an end with patriotic song Vande Maataram.

VIJNANOTSAVA - A Mega Tinkerfest

“Science is a way of thinking much more than it is a body of knowledge”

Off late one cannot imagine his/her life without some advancement as an effect of science and technology.  In fact every moment of one’s life is changing drastically.  Darwin’s theory “The survival of the fittest”, holds well in every aspect of life. 

Moving ahead with the same zeal, the institution could achieve a humongous project called Moto Areca under Atal Tinkering Lab in this academic year.  As a result of this, the institution could achieve greater heights and could get recognized nationally.    The honorable Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi had felicitated the three students of the institution who actively took part in tinkering marathon which resulted in the invention of a farmer-friendly areca nut harvesting robot called “Moto Areca”.

The inaugural programme started at 10 am on 1st December 2018.  The stage was seated by the Chief Guest of the programme Prof. Sudhindra Haldodderi, the President of the programme Dr. Deepak R N, the Inaugurator Mr. Sandeep Senon, the incharge principal of PU College Mrs. Ambika Patil, and the ATL incharge Mr. Rohith V. The master of ceremony was Ms. Pranithi of II PU.
The programme commenced at 10am with a prayer song by the choir group. Mrs Ambika Patil welcomed the gathering.  Mr. Rohith, the convener of the Hongirana ATL presented the foreword and highlighted the role of the institution in Indo Russian Tinkering Summit 2018 and about the Hongirana Tinker Tour.  The programme was inaugurated by Mr. Sandeep Senon by making the robot belonging to dance.  The young founder of EVOBI Automation Pvt. Ltd., Mr. Senon appreciated the school for its environment & culture.  In his talk, he gave a call to all to observe, to question, to learn and to invent as life is short and field of science is too long. He advised students not to feel about their failures as they are the stepping stones of success.  Later, the chief guest Prof. Sudhindra, the retired scientist of DRDO, shared his valuable experiences of working under the able guidance of the down to earth Missile man APJ Abdul Kalam. He gave a call to develop reasoning ability and to work hard.  He motivated the youth to achieve something in life which brings pride to the parents and nation on the whole.     

Later, Dr Deepak RN, a well known physician of Sagar, in his presidential remarks appreciated the institution for its initiative in bringing novelties every year in its Hongiranotsava celebrations.  He also appreciated for bringing such a discipline in the students who witnessed the programme noiselessly.  He, the strong believer of science in every aspect of life, pondered about how scientific up-gradation has its origin right from vedic period in India.  He pondered about the achievements of the great scientists that India has seen right from Aryabhata, Sushrutha, Kanaada to Kalaam of the present era.  He gave a call to the youth to carry on the same legacy and work towards the upliftment of the nation.  Thus, the programme saw an end with a heartfelt vote of thanks rendered by Ms. Kavya,  science faculty of middle section. 
Further to this formal programme, the institution had organized for 8 different inter-school competitions; all the participants were invited to attend the events and events which took place simultaneously throughout the campus.

The intellectual science aspirants who got inspired in the Tech Talk were students from schools like St. Norbert CBSE School, Koppa, Guruji International School, Hosanagara, Jnanadeepa School, Javalli, etc.  They enjoyed the science fest with great scientific temperament and exhibited their knowledge about science and its innovations.

Science Selfie-Picture Contest: The competition was all about to take selfies in any part of the campus related to science and technology and explain about its scientific process.  The participation of the students in this competition was very energetic and they were found very keen in impressing the judges with their ability.

Drawing competition related to Science & Technology:  This was a spectacular, colourful event of drawing pictures related to Science and Technology. The students were creative enough in bringing out the amazing scientific pictures that their brains flung out spontaneously.

Science & Technology Debate Competition: The topic for the Debate was “Artificial Intelligence – A Risk to the Existence of Civilization”.  The participants participated with great zeal.  Their presentation was mind blowing.

Science & Technology Quiz Competition: The main highlight of the days programme was the quiz competition related to science and technology. Mr. Vijetha from Prayoga, Bengaluru was the Quiz Master and Mrs. Madhura Palan was the scorer.  It consisted of rounds like General round, Rapid fire, Buzzer round, Audio Video round and so on. 

Jnanadeepa School, Javalli, bagged first place and St. Norbert CBSE School, Koppa, bagged second place in this competition.

Pick & Speak: This event was very interesting which demanded ability to talk about the topic spontaneously, with presentable body language.  This reflects the general knowledge of students.  Students showcased great spirit.

Innovative Model Exhibition: Students came out with their innovative ideas related to science in the form of working models.  The ideas were eco-friendly which depicted the aspirant’s dedicated approach and thinking, thereby using science in a more constructive way rather than destructive.

Tech-Talk
: Informative Talk was presented by Prof. Sudhindra Haldodderi, Mr. Sandeep Senon, Dr. L K. Sripathi and Mr. Anil Kumar. The resource persons inspired the science aspirants by briefly explaining their journey into the field of science.  They interacted with the students and guided them to choose the career of their choice and not of their parents.  They pondered upon various career opportunities available at present and said science is not the only option left for contributing something to the society.  There were ‘n’ number of streams and domains which would help them to become successful.  Totally, they motivated the children saying that any common man who is really conscious about the problems and challenges in and around him will definitely try to find a solution for such problems.  This would help one becoming scientists and inventors. 



VIJNANOTSAVA VALEDICTORY FUNCTION - 

“Words do two major things: One, they provide food for the mind and the other is they create a light for understanding and awareness”                                  
Vijnanotsava ended after giving a lot of food to the mind and giving way for the Valedictory which started at 3.30 pm with a melodious song by the Choir group.
The stage was adorned by the Chief Guest of the programme, Dr. L.K. Shripathi, Vice-Principal, JNNCE College, Shivamogga, Mr. Anil Kumar, Director, Rachana Enercare, Energy resources, Mysore and the President of the programme Mr. V T Kalyana Sundaram, the Vice Principal Mr. Arvind Gurjar and Mr. Rohit, the convener of the ATL of the institution.  Master of the ceremony was Ms. Namratha of X Grade.

Valedictory of Vijnanotsava came up with lot of appreciations and felicitations to the winners of the competitions that went on throughout the day.  The contestants from various schools and their escort teachers were given opportunity to share their experiences.  This was followed by the felicitation of the great resource persons of the day Prof. Sudhindra Haldodderi, Mr. Sandeep Senon, Dr. L K Shripathi, and Mr. Anil Kumar.  They were appreciated for their life time achievements.  The stage was later open for the valuable speech of the Chief Guest Dr. L K Shripathi, who applauded the institution for the motive behind this programme. He also said that Hongirana always opens the doors of Science, art and culture for the young minds which helps in their overall development.  This was followed by prize distributions to the winners of the competitions that were held in the morning.  Later, Mr. Anil Kumar, inspired students about conservation of resources in his talk.  He highlighted the importance of conservation of the resources for a better tomorrow.  He also said that learning should not be limited to the curriculum.  Everything that comes in ones way of life is learning.  Later, Mr. Kalyana Sundaram, in his presidential remarks inspired students to be open for every opportunity of learning that comes in the way of life.  He concluded his remarks by quoting that opportunity should become the ability of a person.  The programme got concluded by a heartfelt vote of thanks rendered by Mrs. Shriprada, faculty of PU College.  Totally, Vijnanotsava added a feather to the cap of Hongiranotsava. 
The evening was very colourful and enjoyable with a series of cultural programmes from Middle Primary and High School. Besides entertainment, it showcased the cultural heritage of India.

Cultural Program of Day - 2 - Hejje Gejje & Diksoochi

The middle section cultural series were staged with a theme of folk called “Hejje – Gejje”.  The show was all about a story of an NRI family, who was in the verge of losing their children for western culture.  They plan for a trip to India.  Later, influenced by a family friend in India, the NRI children develop love towards their motherland India. This story was knit well and delineated very brilliantly. Later, the stage was handed over to the teens of high school section that performed on the theme of “Manavatha Dharma” named Diksoochi which highlighted religion of humanity.  This show depicted the theme of unity in diversity that prevails in India.  Totally the cultural programmes made the audience dumbstuck by highlighting the culture and heritage of India and also educating audience about the predominant religion of the entire world, the religion of Humanity.  Thus, the colourful second day of Hongiranotsava concluded with patriotic song “Vande matharam”

Day 02 : 01st December 2018

VICHAROTSAVA – A Fest of Human Thoughts and Emotions

There is a saying “If there are no thoughts, then we are unhealthy”.  Human is bound to get enumerable thoughts every fraction of a second in his/her life which entangles and often suffocates him/her.  A forum like Vicharotsava plays a dominant role in tackling such issues. 

On 2nd December 2018,  Vicharotsava was organized under the title “Bhavanegala Thaakalata – Ondu Savaalu” which means Agitation of Emotions – a challenge.  It is a forum which was adorned by everybody right from students to all stake holders like, parents, teachers, management and the community as a whole.  It was successful in fetching solutions for many issues.
The stage programme started at 10am with Mr. Ganesh Rao Nadiger, Counsellor, Manasa Nursing Home, Shivamogga, as the Chief Guest and Mrs. Kamala Gudigar, HM of Primary section on the dias.   The master of the ceremony was Mr. Sandeep Shetty.

The programme was initiated with a warm welcome and foreword by Mr. Sandeep Shetty.  Later, the Chief Guest of the day Mr. Ganesh Rao Nadiger started his speech.  He could connect to all the audience easily with his thoughts of wisdom which came out of his personal experience.  He said thoughts are inevitable and one should nurture good thoughts, but feelings can be controlled by us. Also problems are the indispensable part of life and it again depends on how one accepts.   He quoted the example of Arunima Sinha, who was a national level volleyball player but had lost one of her legs below the knee.  But she never gave up and she became the first female amputee to climb the Mount Everest.  Then he spoke about Hima Das who holds the current national record and said one should believe in one’s willpower. He pondered about the path chosen by a young orator Mr. Ajith Nadig and his determination in doing what his inner conscious said and later became a follower of Swami Vivekananda.  He stressed upon Self-confidence which is the key to success.  He insisted that one should have SMART goals in life (where S stands for Specific, M stands for Measurable, A stands for Achievable, R stands for Realistic and T stands for Time) and the goals necessarily need to be in smaller units.  This favors not only the community but also the person himself.  There may be disturbances, but determination can overcome them.   Thus, he gave tips on handling the emotional clashes and nurturing positive emotions.  End of the session, the forum was open for questions from the audience.  The Chief Guest answered all the questions and encouraged the audience to foster happiness through which our nervous system gets activated positively. He also gave a call to avoid fear, one has to plan up the priorities and not to compare oneself with anyone as everyone in this world is born unique.  Totally, it was an inspiring session to all the stakeholders to lead a happy and peaceful life.
The programme got concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Mr. Sandeep Shetty. 

FUN TIME FOR THE PARENTS

On this occasion of Hongiranotsava, to cheer and boost up the morale of the parents, a series of Fun Games were organized by the institution.  The games were led by the high school faculties Mr. Naveen K.G. and Mr. Sandeep Shetty.  Parents took part very enthusiastically with sporting spirit and said these games helped them in cherishing their childhood.  Later the winners were rewarded with Lollipops to amuse them which added more fun to the programme.

VARSHIKOTSAVA

Excellence in academics is the hall-mark of a good institution

The Annual Report showcases the achievements and glories of the institution, undoubtedly. The institution has always been committed to create an environment which helps the young minds to blossom and provide a platform for individual thinking and holistic development.  The credit of the excellent performance is usually attributed to a number of new initiatives undertaken by the institution.
The formal annual day function under the title Varshikotsava started at 3.30pm.  The dignitaries on the stage were Mr. Chethan R, Editor, Digvijaya News 24X7, Bangalore as the Chief Guest of the programme, Honourable Principal Mrs. Shobha Ravindra, Vice Principal Mr. Arvind Gurjar and Mr. B V Suresh Kumar, President of Sagar Academy of Education as the President of the programme.  The programme was witnessed by the HMs of all the sections.  The master of ceremony was Ms. Bismaya of Class X.
The programme was initiated with a melodious prayer song by students, post this, the gathering was welcomed by Mrs. Madhura Palan, a faculty of Primary Section.  The annual report was presented by Mrs. Shobha Ravindra, who briefed about the ongoings of the current academic year.  She elucidated the plan of work of the institution under 12 different branches which are regularly in practice to ensure the progress of the institution in the right direction. She concluded her report by extending heartfelt thanks to all the stakeholders aspiring for some more ventures with their kind cooperation.

Later the students of PU II year, Akarsha, Gurudatt and Tejas KN, tinkerers of Moto Areca, were felicitated by the institution.  The rewards and recognition programme was followed by the prizes for the special achievers given by the Chief Guest.  Post this, the Chief Guest of the programme Mr. Chetan R addressed the gathering.  In his speech, he appreciated the institution for its commendable initiatives in preparing the young minds to face the cut-throat competitive world.  He quoted Darwin’s theory, “Survival the Fittest” and said Patience, persistence and hard work are the 3 keys to success as there is no shortcut to success.  He reiterated that one has to develop leadership qualities, and be determined about his goal as “where there is a will there is a way”.  He gave a call to the young minds to be grateful to their parents and teachers. He ultimately praised the institution for its accomplishments and wished good luck for its forthcoming endeavors.

The special achievers under the academics category were announced.  Last but not the least were the students who could make a place in Taluk and district level sports were also felicitated with cash prize.  Also students who procured extra-ordinary places in co-curricular activities and inter-schools competitions were awarded suitably. 

Later, the gathering was addressed by the President of the programme Mr. B V Suresh Kumar.  He spoke on the topic “Missing Link-Ambition” and the generation gap.  He gave a call to all not to spoon feed the younger generation with the fighting spirit and unhealthy competitions.  Instead, he said the young minds have to be taught about the basic requirements of life like self confidence, positive thinking, humanity etc., which is the need of the hour.
With his presidential remarks the formal programme of Varshikotsava was called an end after a heartfelt vote of thanks by Mr. Aravind Gurjar to all of them who acted as a great support in the successful accomplishment of Hongiranotsava 2018-19.

Cultural Program of Day - 3 - Bhavanegala Banna & Yakshagana

Hongiranotsava – 2018-19 was at its verge of celebrations.  Being the last evening of the Hongiranotsava, the Cultural evening kick started at 6pm with a series of programmes from PU section under the theme “Bhaavanegala Banna” which means the colour of the emotions. Soon after this, the stage got decked for a mesmerizing Yakshagaana show.  The show was led by dedicated and well known Yakshagaana Bhagawat Mr. Prashanth Madhyasta and famous Yakshagaana Artist Mr. Ganapathi A R.  They were accompanied by Mr. Guruprasaad and Mr. Sharath on percussion instruments.  The topic chosen this year was “Samudra Manthana”.   The audience was mesmerized and applauded the performers and encouraged them.  Totally, the festive environment in the institution was called an end by this programme which left its great effect of learning and wonderful strategies to plan ahead for a splendid and better years to come.
